Lycoming County is dedicated to giving every child access to quality education and the tools needed to one day enter and compete in the workforce. As your local Chamber we advocate on behalf of the business community to improve the education pipeline in the region. As the need for talented, highly-skilled employees continues to expand and competition for these workers becomes more intense, early education is an issue that can affect both the workforce of today and the workforce of tomorrow. Early education sets children up for success and the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce serves as the voice of the industry in the education process. We bring together programs, partnerships, and events to address the challenges of developing, attracting, and maintaining talent for our members and local businesses. We celebrate our children’s scholastic accomplishments and provide our educators with industry tours to bring awareness to the future workforce needs of our economy.
An annual award ceremony highlighting the achievements and contributions of those involved in today’s education network. The awards include:

School counselors and career tech educators from Lycoming and Sullivan County tour area industries to gain better insight to the types of skill sets required for their students’ future careers. Each industry tour provided them with a general understanding of the types of jobs involved at their operations along with the requirements and traits needed for them. The educators are then given tours to see first-hand the work being performed at these companies.

The day concludes with a lunch presentation by Lycoming College, the Pennsylvania College of Technology, and UPMC Susquehanna.
The two colleges’ information focuses on the training and education provided to students seeking a two- or four-year education that will ready them for employment at local businesses and industries.
In addition to learning about opportunities related to post-secondary education, attendees also hear about positions available at UPMC Susquehanna for those looking to go directly into the workforce after high school.
Each month a local business hosts superintendents and teachers from the school districts in our area. The company provides a tour of their facility and an overview of the type of skills required for the various positions required at their location.
The “Student of the Quarter” program is designed to honor students from local high schools for their academic excellence.
Each of the schools selects three students during the course of the school year to be highlighted in the Chamber’s newsletter, The Chamber Connection, which runs in the Sun-Gazette on the first Wednesday of each month.
Through this feature, the students gain public recognition for their outstanding academic achievements.
The What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? contest for Central PA is produced by the PA Manufacturing Extension Partnership in Williamsport, PA, and the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce. The contest features schools from Lycoming and Sullivan counties.

Created by the Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC) in Allentown, PA in 2013, the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? contests draw entries from teams across Pennsylvania. The teams of students and teacher coaches receive camera equipment, software, and professional guidance as they learn to script, record, and edit their video stories. The contest’s objective is to change students’ perceptions about manufacturing careers.
Two post-secondary educational institutions operate in Lycoming County.
